Wednesday May 13, 2020 “The Locomotion” Grand Funk Railroad
Get your dancing shoes back out we are about to do the locomotion, a song written by Carole King and her then husband Gerry Goffin for their baby-sitter (Little) Eva Boyd who scored a number one hit with the dance. But we’re going with the later version done by Grand Funk Railroad because I know that band (not really) and also who can resist their cringe worthy guitar solo.
Grand Funk was a power trio, guitar, bass and drums and they were an arena-rock band who achieved significant successes in the 70’s. Way back in the day, I had a friend in the music business and he would get us free tickets and occasionally access to some of the musical greats of the time. One evening we went to see Grand Funk at Madison Square Garden and then went backstage to meet the band…and the opening group BloodRock.
A memorable experience for us but I am quite confident the band will never remember it in fact I am pretty sure they didn’t even know they were at MSG at the time.
Am convinced that doing the locomotion will prevent the corona virus so swing your hips, jump up, jump back…wait does this sound like the Time Warp? And if the Locomotion isn’t preventative, it will at the very least be fun.
Stay safe and well…and start that chug-a-chug motion like a railroad train.
