Thursday May 14, 2020 “Dreamin” Johnny Burnette
This wasn’t the song of the day on the schedule for this date but there is nothing more constant in the world than change so I switched it up and we will get to ”Forever Young” by Alphaville another time, or maybe not. So why the switch?
I had a dream last night that this virus insanity was all, well just that, a dream and the world was the same as it was back in February. We could leave our homes and venture out into the world, hug family and friends, there were concerts with all of our favorite bands crowded with happy screaming fans, beaches and pools were packed with laughing and splashing swimmers, grocery shelves were overflowing with products and then I turned on the TV and the news came on...
Today’s song “Dreamin” sung by singer/songwriter Johnny Burnette who was broke and unemployed in Los Angeles but determined to make it in the music business so he got a ‘map of the stars’, took his songs and guitar and camped out on then teen idol Ricky Nelson’s doorstep. Nelson was impressed with his brashness but even more iimpressed with his songs and went on to record several of them and achieve significant top 40 success with each of them.
This particular tune was produced by Snuff Garrett who worked with Sonny & Cher, Bobby Vee, Del Shannon and many other pop stars of the time and gave legendary record producer Phil Spector one of his first gigs.
Stay safe and well...and keep on dreaming, til our dreaming comes true.
