Tuesday June 23, 2020 “Forever Young” Alphaville

"Do you really want to live forever?"

Earlier we got some rock & roll advice from Tommy Conwell and his young rumblers and yes, maybe there was some substance to it, or maybe it was just a nice tune.  So in the world of compare and contrast I offer you Alphaville’s “Forever Young”, another nice tune, possibly a favorite prom song in the late 80’s but what does this song really mean?

Please don’t get me wrong, I like this song but only when not listening to the lyrics because, well they leave me confused.  “It’s so hard to get old without a cause, I don’t want to perish like a fading horse.”  “Praising our leaders, we’re getting in tune, the music’s played by the madman.” Yep, right, sure, of course, what?

Alphaville is a German synth pop band, they were in style in the 80’s, synth pop bands that is, and perhaps these lyrics in their native German have more relevance, significance  and even make more sense than they might in English.

So I will leave you with these random Alphaville thoughts, ’some are melody and some are beat…so many songs we forgot to play…life is a short trip”

Enjoy the video, the hair, the fashion, oh yes this is the 80’s!

Stay safe and well…and forever young.
