Wednesday June 10, 2020 Special Song of the Day “Peace Train” Cat Stevens

We could use a little peace.

A nickname provided by an early girlfriend who felt he looked like a cat, Steven Demetre Georgiou kept that along with his first name and became Cat Stevens and began a long and successful career as a singer songwriter, storyteller.  Also a talented painter, his works graces the covers of some of his albums/CDs.

Although his initial hits like “I Love My Dog” would not suggest his later abilities, a bout of tuberculosis which had a long convalescence period left him with little to do but write songs which he did...about 40 of them.

“Peace Train”, which has become somewhat of an anthem, was Cat Stevens' first US number one song and he would go on to be inducted, perhaps controversially because of comments made relative to a fatwa against author Salman Rushdie, into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and would have record sales of more than 60 million.

Stay safe and well...and jump on board the peace train.

Now I've been happy lately

Thinking about the good things to come

And I believe it could be

Something good has begun

Oh, I've been smiling lately

Dreaming about the world as one

And I believe it could be

Someday it's going to come

'Cause I'm on the edge of darkness

There ride the Peace Train

Oh, Peace Train take this country

Come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately,

Thinkin' about the good things to come

And I believe it could be,

Something good has begun

Oh Peace Train sounding louder

Glide on the Peace Train

Come on now Peace Train

Yes, Peace Train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the Peace Train

Come on now, Peace Train

Get your bags together,

Go bring your good friends, too

'Cause it's getting nearer,

It soon will be with you

Now come and join the living,

It's not so far from you

And it's getting nearer,

Soon it will all be true

Oh Peace Train sounding louder

Glide on the Peace Train

Come on now Peace Train

Peace Train

Now I've been crying lately,

Thinkin' about the world as it is

Why must we go on hating,

Why can't we live in bliss

'Cause out on the edge of darkness,

There rides a Peace Train

Oh Peace Train take this country,

Come take me home again

Oh Peace Train sounding louder

Glide on the Peace Train

Come on now, Peace Train

Yes, Peace Train holy roller

Everyone jump upon the Peace Train

Come on, come on, come on

Yes, come on, peace train

Yes, it's the peace train

Come on now, peace train

Oh, peace train
