Tuesday June 9, 2020 “Get Up Stand Up” Bob Marley & the Wailers
Time for some more reggae, can there ever be too much reggae.
This tune was written by Peter Tosh and Bob Marley who were deeply moved by the poverty they saw in Haiti while the Wailers were touring. The Wailers, Marley, Tosh , Junior Braithwaite and Bunny Wailer (Neville O’Riley Livingston) started as a ska band in Jamaica would go on to world acclaim both as a group and with each of their individual ventures.
Marley tends to overshadow the group, and rightly so, but The Wailers who were previoulsy known as The Teenagers and The Wailing Rude Boys have recorded a dozen albums/CDs and have record sales in excess of 250 million.
A member of the Rock & Roll Hall of fame, Marley has several humanitarian awards including a United Nations Peace Medal and has been credited with introducing the world to reggae, raising the awareness of Jamaica and has left behind an immense musical legacy.
Stay safe and well...now you see the light.
