Thursday June 11, 2020 “Nature’s Way” Spirit

So maybe Spirit knew something about how this pandemic thing might be ‘...nature’s way of telling us something’s wrong’, or maybe it’s just an interesting tune.

Spirit was comprised of Ed Cassidy, Mike Nile and Randy Wolfe who had been renamed Randy California by Jimi Hendrix when he played in his band Jimmy James and the Blue Flames to differentiate him from the other Randy in that same band...named Randy Texas by Hendrix.

California and Cassidy lived in the same Forest Hills, NY apartment building as future Steely Dan founder Walter Becker who cites California’s guitar playing as being influential in his own growth.  

Led Zeppelin opened for Spirit before they became the international band that they grew into and if you have any interest you might want to give a listen to the Spirit song “Taurus” which is pretty darned close to Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” (you might say it is identical).  “Taurus” was written before “Stairway”and Jimmy Page would have heard the tune numerous times while touring with Spirit.
