Monday June 8, 2020 “Hold On” Alabama Shakes

A postal employee, house painter, nuclear power worker and a vertinarian’s assistant who all played Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Otis Redding and Ramones songs in a cover band formed what would become Alabama Shakes.  Their sound is built around Brittany Howard’s songwriting and her powerful voice which she says has been influenced by Bob Scott’s singing with the group AC/DC.

They have won a handful of Grammy’s and have been nominated and won several other prestigious music awards.  This tune “Hold On’ was a number one single and was dubbed as the best single of the year 2012 by Rolling Stone.

Brittany Howard, whose vocals stylings have been compared to Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin has released a solo album/CD and has plans for an upcoming solo tour (should those start again).

Stay safe and well...and hold on.

Bless my heart

Bless my soul

Didn't think I'd make it to twenty-two years old

There must be someone up above saying

Come on Brittany

You got to come on up

You got to hold on

Yeah you got to hold on

So, bless my heart and bless yours too

I don't know where I'm gonna go

Don't what what I'm gonna do

Must be somebody up above saying come on Brittany

You got to come on up!

You got to hold on

Yeah you got to hold on

 Yeah, you got to wait

Yeah, you got to wait

But I don't wanna wait

I don't wanna wait

 So, bless my heart

Bless my mind

I got so much to do

I ain't got much time

So, must be someone up above

Saying come on girl

You got to get back up

You got to hold on

Yeah you got to hold on

 Yeah, you got to wait

I don't wanna wait

Well I don't wanna wait

No I don't wanna wait

 You got to hold on

You got to hold on

You've gotta hold on

You gotta hold on
