Tuesday April 21, 2020 “Just Around the Corner” Cock Robin

Let’s slow it down for a change. I don’t think we’ve done a real ballad yet and let’s stay in the eighties for just one more tune which comes from a band you may not be familiar with, Cock Robin, yeah the name, I don’t know why either. Not a big success in the US but huge in Europe, now there’s a cliché. Truth though.

There are some soaring vocals from their lead singer and songwriter Peter Kingsberry in this selection and nice production by Don Gehman who has done work with CSN&Y, REM, John Mellencamp, Hootie & the Blowfish and many others, so it does give pause for thought, why not Cock Robin too. Kingsberry once played keyboards with country superstar Brenda Lee’s touring band and has composed songs that have been recorded by Smokey Robinson and Stephanie Mills among others.

'Just Around the Corner' is not available on Spotify but other songs from the band are and if you enjoy this tune it is indicative of most of the Cock Robin/Kingsberry catalog for additional listening and if you didn’t, well tomorrow will likely bring something completely different.

And another 80’s video masterpiece. What the heck is going on here and how could it possibly relate to the song…or anything else in this world for that matter!!??

Be safe and well…the end of this chaos might be ‘just around the corner’.

Things aren't quite
You can't know about and pain
You wonder
Where else can I be cured
A thorn
That claims he's free

Just around
Strong enough
Darling come quickly, come ease my mind
For my prayers in a long time

I've already made my bed, like it or not
As long as there's no regrets
I'll be here when the ride stops
These comforts crosses to bear
With which we live

Just around
Strong enough
Baby, I can't drag you into this mess

I'm the thorn
And I'm just around
Strong enough
Darling come quickly, come ease my worried mind
For my prayers in a long time
