Monday April 20, 2020 “If We Never Meet Again” Tommy Conwell & The Young Rumblers
Rock songs are generally not the best source for advice and direction but let’s be honest we all get drawn in occasionally. So I offer up this charming, jangly tune from Tommy Conwell and the Young Rumblers to document that every once in a while these sometimes drug addled prophets can actually come up with some food for thought. Rock prophets maybe but no suggestion intended here that Tommy or the Rumblers are or were drug addled.
Now I know you are probably thinking Tommy who and the what and yes here is yet another case of a group who should have ‘made it’, or maybe I just have an exaggerated sense of my own musical taste. They did have a regional hit in 1988 with their first single “I’m Not Your Man” but then, well it’s just another tale of bad luck, record label problems or maybe a lack of songs that connected with a larger audience.
But this particularly pleasant tune has so many elements that you might think about so here’s a sample, “…there’s one thing that I’ll never forget, it’s the beauty of a friendship that’s not over yet.” Sequestered as we have all been, it’s a great time to call that friend or relative you might not have spoken to in a while because they’re going through the same thing you are, the same worries, the same isolation, maybe worse.
Share some stories, provide some humor, listen attentively, be supportive and maybe offer some help if needed, emotional or actual.
And remember that ‘just one smile can be planted like a seed’.
Be safe and well…and start planting.
