Tuesday April 14, 2020 “Here Comes the Sun” Beatles
Two fer Tuesday.
Can’t believe that we are this deep into song of the day and just getting to the Beatles, the greatest boy band ever. Sure I know that they eventually became a man band but let’s be honest they were the first boy band; cute, groomed by their manager, adolescent pop tunes, screaming teen age girls…OK adolescent tunes was inappropriate.
This George Harrison song, according to Eric Clapton, George’s best friend (even after he broke-up George’s marriage and then married George’s ex-wife) was written on the spot one morning in George’s garden. There has been the suggestion that the guitar signature in this song bears a resemblance to the bridge that George wrote for Cream’s “Badge”, you be the judge.
Also, at the 2016 Republic Convention Ivanka Trump came onstage while ‘Here Comes the Sun’ played. Apparently Harrison’s estate objected vehemently to this unauthorized use. The estate countered with the suggestion that they might have been OK if instead they used George's ‘Beware of Darkness’ .
I included the video of George and Paul Simon (does Paul Simon look a lot like Mike Bloomberg?) playing live. Grainy video but exceptional guitar work and lovely harmonies and a twofer with “Homeward Bound”, and after all aren’t we all currently home(ward) bound.
Yes, it does feel like years since it’s been clear, but here comes the sun and it will be all right.
Be safe and well.
