Monday April 13, 2020 “O-o-h Child” The Five Stair Steps
OK stop right now, because if you don’t know this song you are immediately thinking ‘no I am not listening to some 50’s doo wop tune’, although there’s absolutely nothing wrong with many of those. I had forgotten about this simple, sweet tune but when I heard it recently a positive, calm feeling crept over me and the lyrics were so on target for today that I couldn’t stop myself from getting it on the list as soon as I could.
The Five Stair Steps were comprised of five of the six children of Clarence Burke a Chicago policeman and his wife Betty, four brothers and one sister and although this song was their biggest hit they did have some other moderate successes. ‘O-o-h Child’ was written by Stan Vincent, not a member of the Burke family, who also penned some tunes for 60’s falsetto pop star Lou Christie…anyone under 60 not familiar with Lou Christie might want to give him a listen too.
So spend 3:19 minutes with The Five Stair Steps and I promise not to tell anyone that you enjoyed it…BTW it is number 402 on Rolling Stones Greatest Songs of All Time in case you needed to defend yourself. Also some interesting drum work on this.
And yes, “things are gonna get easier, things will get brighter…”
Be well and safe…and positive.
