Wednesday April 15, 2020 “Alone Again, Or” Love
Pretty much the way we are all feeling about being socially distanced from the rest of the world/community, alone again, or.
This group, Love, is similar to Big Star, a former song of the day group, in that they should have been contenders based on their broad musical styles and talented songwriting but were doomed to the whims of their wildly erratic front man and chief songwriter Arthur Lee, who found himself with a number of problems like being arrested for setting his girlfriend’s apartment on fire and shooting a gun at his neighbor, separate incidents.
But let’s not be judgmental I am sure Lee would contend that both were done with good reason.
The band’s original choice for a name was the Grass Roots but someone beat them to that one so they went with Love and much like the Big Star story, their critical reputation has exceeded their somewhat limited successes during their time together. ‘Alone Again, Or’ is a lovely tune and may be the only song title that ends with a conjunction. They have a remarkably diverse catalog that I would recommend checking out if you are not familiar with them. This video is from Later with Jools Holland which is the best music live music show ever. Look for it on your cable provider.
And right now, ‘people are the greatest fun’ and we will all be back together with them soon.
Stay safe and well…and friendly, at a distance.
