Wednesday October 28, 2020 “Devil Woman” Sir Cliff Richard (Harry Rodger Webb)
Continuing with our pre-Halloween theme here is a devilish tune from Cliff Richard, the British Elvis, who much like Dick Clark (and perhaps Dorian Gray) never appears to age. He is currently 80 going on forty. Age obviously caught up with Dick Clark.
John Lennon once said “Before Cliff and “Move It’ (Richard’s first record) there was nothing.” “Move It” has been described as the first authentic British rock and roll record which then "laid the foundations" for the Beatles and Merseybeat music.
Richard has more than 130 top 20 UK singles with a number one hit in five consecutive decades making him one of the most prolific and successful of all British artists.
“Devil Woman” was co-written by Terry Britten who was also responsible for Tina Turner's hits “What’s Love Got to Do with It” and “We Don’t Need Another Hero” among other tunes that have been recorded by artists like Michael Jackson, Meat Loaf, Bonnie Raitt and Celine Dion to name just a few..
“Devil Woman” was covered by many other artists including the band Cradle of Filth(?) on their album/CD “Nympetamine” and I know you want to listen to that so here it is, and it is way creepier than it sounds.
Stay safe and well...and I wonder if the devil woman knows Madame Ruth from “Love Potion Number 9“?
