Tuesday October 27, 2020 “Don’t Fear the Reaper” Blue Oyster Cult

Seems only logical since we were at a dead man's party yesterday that we probably got there thanks to an invitation from Blue Oyster Cult's grim reaper.

So what exactly is a Blue Oyster Cult, originally Soft White Underbelly.  It is a group of aliens secretly guiding Earth’s history according to band manager Sandy Pearlman who provided the band with their name.  Maybe he knew something about the band members that we have yet to find out.

“Don’t Fear the Reaper” was written by BOC’s lead guitarist Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) and according to him  it is about the afterlife and not a suggestion to take your own life as has been interpreted by many.  Dharma was diagnosed with a heart condition and while coping with that diagnosis and feeling more than a bit mortal he conceived of this, ‘don’t worry about dying’ theme’.

The song is the subject of a classic SNL skit featuring Christopher Walken as the record producer constantly demanding more cowbell from the band as they record the song.

Stay safe and well...and 'the curtains flew then he appeared...'

All our times have come

Here but now they're gone

Seasons don't fear the reaper

Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are

Come on baby, don't fear the reaper

Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper

We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper

Baby I'm your man

La, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la

Valentine is done

Here but now they're gone

Romeo and Juliet

Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet

40, 000 men and women everyday, Like Romeo and Juliet

40, 000 men and women everyday, Redefine happiness

Another 40, 000 coming everyday, We can be like they are

Come on baby, don't fear the reaper

Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper

We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper

Baby I'm your man

La, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la

Love of two is one

Here but now they're gone

Came the last night of sadness

And it was clear she couldn't go on

Then the door was open and the wind appeared

The candles blew then disappeared

The curtains flew then he appeared, saying don't be afraid

Come on baby, and she had no fear

And she ran to him, then they started to fly

They looked backward and said goodby, she had become like they are

She had taken his hand, she had become like they are

Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
