Monday October 26, 2020 “Dead Man’s Party” Oingo Boingo
Just a few days until Halloween so let’s get in the mood with some appropriate rock & roll.
And what better place to start than at a dead man’s party with Oingo Boingo, Danny Elfman’s early work before he became one of Hollywood’s most prominent go to movie music producers. Oingo Boingo was originally formed by Danny’s older brother Richard as a performance group, the Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo which Richard claimed was inspired by the fictional secret society the Mystic Knights of the Sea Lodge from the TV series Amos & Andy.
As a composer beyond Oingo Boingo Elfman has far too many credits to include in this brief piece but as a reference let’s just mention a few: John Hughes’ Weird Science (not the Thomas Dolby version), Batman, most of Tim Burton's movies, Midnight Run and The Girl on a Train just to sample a few. He also has numerous Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, a couple of Emmys and two Grammys, just to touch on a few of the many awards Danny Elfman has.
Danny’s family touches several notables including his wife Bridget Fonda, in-law Jenna Elfman (TV sitcom Dharma & Greg), nephew actor/producer Bodhi Elfman (Pirates of Silicon Valley and many others).
Let me know if you think Tim Curry looks just like Danny Elfman.
Stay safe and well...and welcome to the party where no one’s still alive.
