Sunday November 1, 2020 “Come for Me” Sunflower Bean
Let’s lighten up a bit after all that Halloween stuff with this pop gem from indie group Sunflower Bean. A palate cleanser so to speak.
This New York based trio was described by NYTimes rock critic Jon Pareles as a band ’... whose music suggests what might have happened if psychedelia had emerged after punk and the Police rather than before." Maybe even a little Prince, lyrically and musically.
The band was founded by Nick Kivlen and Jacob Faber when they were students at North Shore High School and writing and playing in Faber’s parents basement. Singer and bass player, and sometime model for brands like H&M and Diesel, Julia Cummings was coming out of the band Supercute! as they dissolved and connected with Faber and Kivlek and the lineup was complete.
“Come for Me” according to Cummings was "Inspired by inner strength, power, and sexual freedom." and by listening to a lot of Cardi B. Lyrically it is about as straightforward as it sounds. It is included on their very interesting 2019 album/CD King of Dudes.
Stay safe and well...and yes this does get played on the radio.
