Saturday October 31, 2020 Halloween “Theme from the Exorcist” Tubular Bells (Mike Oldfield)
On Halloween night the zombies, vampires, werewolves and other demons all wander about so it seems appropriate to have some creepy music from one of the scariest movies ever to accompany that revelry.
This song is included on the debut album/CD from multi-instrumentalist Mike Oldfield and was the first record released on Richard Branson’s label Virgin Records. Oldfield never intended it to be a part of the movie but it was included almost accidentally when director William Friedkin heard it being played in Ahmet Ertegun’s office.
As closely as the music is associated with The Exorcist, Oldfield said he has never seen the film because he believed he would find it too frightening. Can’t disagree.
I need to relate an unusual happening as I was writing this. Obviously not Halloween night but the video was playing as I typed this and then I went back to the video playing underneath. Just as I checked back on one of the very frightening images of Linda Blair a large wooden parrot that I have on a bookshelf behind me leapt off the shelf and rolled to my chair.
Coincidence? Unlikely.
Stay safe and well...and turn the lights out and play this video, I dare you.
