Sunday April 12, 2020 “Spirit in the Sky”, Norman Greenbaum
”Spirit in the Sky” just seemed both obvious and appropriate for Easter Sunday.
One of the most infectiously catchy, religious-themed, one-hit wonder songs "Spirit in the Sky" has been featured on the soundtracks of many movies including Wayne's World 2, Apollo 13, A Simple Plan, Remember the Titans, Ocean's Eleven and so many others. The song has also been used in TV commercials and has popped up on episodes of various TV shows.
Written and sung by Norman Greenbaum who was raised in a traditional Jewish household and attended Hebrew school, so even with the song's Christian feel Greenbaum’s background allows us to be universal in the faith he professes. Check out the pic of Norman below.
And who doesn’t appreciate another three chord masterpiece.
So on Easter Sunday, let’s go big picture and be sure you have a friend in Jesus so you too will be ‘recommended to the spirit in the sky.’
Be safe and well…and joyful.
