Friday August 5, 2022 “Wild Child” The Black Keys
“Wild Child” comes from the album Dropout Boogie which musically is a return to Black Keys founders Dan Auberbach and Patrick Carney's early days when they played blues-rock together. The Black Keys album takes its name from a track on Safe As Milk, the 1967 debut album by rock and blues innovator Captain Beefheart.
So you know my fascination with band names, Their name comes from an expression used by a friend of the pair, schizophrenic artist Alfred McMoore. “He would call people he doesn’t like D Flats and Black Keys,” Carney explained. We’ve had better stories before.
Natives of Akron, Ohio, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney formed the Black Keys in 2001 and in 2002 recorded their debut album in Patrick Carney’s basement, The Big Come Up, which received strong reviews and sales, and lead to a contract with Fat Possum by the end of that year.
Carney, the more outspoken member of the duo, has said that he blamed the recent downturn of interest in rock ‘n’ roll solely on Nickelback, who he described as “watered-down, post-grunge crap, horrendous shit.” Ouch.
In addition to being a band founder, lead guitarist, vocalist and primary songwriter for The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach has produced music for artists including The Pretenders, Lana Del Rey, Cage the Elephant, Marcus King, Grace Potter and so many others.
Stay safe and well…and enjoy this live performance of today’s song.
