Thursday August 4, 2022 “Sure Don’t Miss You” The Dip
So I am living in a radio never never land with live access to only a couple of listenable stations and sure I could spend my time on the www or with Spotify but I just love live radio. And you know how it is when you’re half listening and hearing familiar songs and all of a sudden a song jumps out and grabs you by the ears and says ‘hey, check me out!’
That’s how I ran across The Dip and it was musical love at first listen for me.
A big band by most current standards and definitely a retro sound, or maybe a soul sound, perhaps they’re R&B or jazz and yeah a bunch of pop. No real musical box to put The Dip in and that’s a good thing.
The Dip came together in 2013 at the University of Washington where its members were all music students in the jazz program. The Dip recorded their eponymous debut album in 2015 and as their reputation spread beyond the Pacific Northwest, they cut a one-off 7" EP, Won't Be Coming Back, for Colemine Records, then built their own customized studio in Seattle. In 2019 their album The Dip Delivers notched massive streaming numbers, especially for an independent band and they toured constantly.
Stay safe and well…and if you would like to sample some more of The Dip, and I would recommend that, you should check out their live performance here.
