Saturday April 18, 2020 “I Can See Clearly Now” Jimmy Cliff

Yeah, I know you were asking yourself, where has all the Reggae been, me too, so here we go with one of the most positive, happy, uplifting songs perhaps ever recorded, ‘I Can See Clearly Now.’ The original version of this, a number one hit in 1972, was recorded by the song’s author, Johnny Nash who while recording “I Can See Clearly” in Jamaica (Nash was from Houston) met Bob Marley and the Wailers and immediately signed them to a recording contract.

Just for some contrast, Nash would also go on to sign The Cowsills to a recording contract. For those unfamiliar with The Cowsills they were an actual family rock band that the TV series The Partridge Family was based on.

Today’s version is by Jimmy Cliff which is included on the soundtrack of the movie *Cool Runnings* about the Jamaican Olympic bobsled team, selected because it provides another example of what’s so powerful about music. Watch the band in the video when you can, Paul Schaeffer’s Most Dangerous Band, working musicians, professionals every one of them, and are they having a great time playing this song, you bet they are, maybe even a better time than we are having listening and watching.

‘Look around there’s nothing but blue skies…it’s gonna be a bright sunshiny day…’ soon!

Be safe and well…and look beyond the dark clouds.

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

I think I can make it now the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I've been praying for
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Look all around, there's nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there's nothing but blue skies

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It's gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
Oh what a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
