Sunday November 21, 2021 “I Can Dream About You” Dan Hartman (Winston Ford)
Sure sounds like Motown and the video features The Sorels doing their best Temptations impression in the movie Streets of Fire. But the truth is this is a song written and sung by Dan Hartman...at least sung by him on the soundtrack for the film, the voice used in the film is Winston Ford.
The Sorels, although not singing the song, do such a great job dancing and lip synching that they make their performance completely believable and why not they are all fine actors; Stoney Jackson, Robert Townsend, Mykelti Williamson and Grand L. Bush.
But you may be wondering about Dan Hartman who previously was a member of the Edgar Winter Group and was also in Johnny Winter's band for a time. Hartman was also a session musician that supported artists as diverse as Ian Hunter, Stevie Wonder, Todd Rundgren, and Ronnie Montrose. He also produced the band .38 Special, the Average White Band, and James Brown.
I love the music in “I Can Dream About You” but the lyrics have always intrigued me…”moving sidewalks I don’t see under my feet…”?
Stay safe and well...and Streets of Fire has a fine cast, interesting soundtrack and is directed by Walter Hill (The Warriors, 48 Hours) and the film is so melodramatic and cheesy that I just have to recommend it. Check out the trailer and then make some popcorn.
