Monday October 25, 2021 “To Sir With Love” Lulu
The theme for this week is going to be ‘for no particular reason’.
"To Sir with Love" is the theme song from the 1967 film of the same name starring Sidney Poitier. The song was performed by British singer and actress Lulu (who also starred in the film), and written by Don Black and Mark London. Black would continue to do extensive work in films and would write many of the James Bond title songs as well as the title and international number one song from Born Free.
The movie, To Sir With Love was directed by James Clavell who was more noted as a writer who among many other titles wrote Shogun.
In the United States, Lulu is often thought of as a one-hit wonder, having scored this memorable number one hit in 1967 with the bittersweet and evocative "To Sir, With Love" without ever duplicating that feat. In the United Kingdom, however, the Scotland-born vocalist had already scored a handful of hits when "To Sir, With Love" was released as the B-side, remember those vinyl discs with two sides, to "Let's Pretend."
The band and backing vocals on today’s song was done by The Mindbenders (“Groovy Kind of Love”) who were also in the movie.
Stay safe and well...and this video comes directly from the movie which if you haven’t seen it, you owe it to yourself to catch. Definitely a feel good film and one of special interest to the teachers in the group.
