Tuesday October 26, 2021 “The Night Has a Thousand Eyes” Bobby Vee
Bobby Vee had an unfortunate jumpstart to his career when his band was given the opportunity to play at the Winter Dance Party concert in Clear Lake Iowa as a last minute substitute for Buddy Holly who was enroute to show when his plane crashed... the day the music died. And it’s no small coincidence that Bobby Vee sounds so much like Buddy Holly.
At shows before the Winter Dance Party, Bobby Vee had a keyboard player in his band by the name of Elston Gunn who, in 2013 would pay tribute to Bobby Vee as ‘the most meaningful person I’ve ever been on stage with.” He then played “Suzie Baby”, Bobby Vee’s first top forty hit, for the sold out audience at Midway Stadium in St. Paul, MN. Elston Gunn was an early musical name that Bob Dylan used.
Bobby Vee had 38 Hot 100 chart hits, ten of which hit the Top 20 many of which were written by Brille Building songwriters like Carole King, Jerry Goffin, Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich. Bobby Vee left us on October 24, 2016.
Stay safe and well...and all that I can say about the video is, oh my god!
