Monday March 15, 2021 “3 A.M.” Matchbox Twenty
When the time changes occur all of our clocks are supposed to be adjusted at 2:00AM. How many times have you asked yourself just who decided that and why?
So here we are an hour late on the clock change at “3 A.M.” with Matchbox 20.
Hope this doesn’t change the way you think about this song, but it's not about a love interest who only sleeps when it's raining, it has a much more somber meaning. Lead singer Rob Thomas wrote it about the time he spent caring for his mother when she was sick with cancer. Thomas was 12 years old when she got the disease, and she was given six months to live. She survived it, and was healthy when Thomas left home to set out on his own at age 17.
Songs of course should always be open to everyone's personal interpretation.
After Matchbox 20 recorded their second album/CD, Thomas would co-write and record the single, “Smooth” on Carlos Santana’s comeback album Supernatural. The song topped the Billboard charts for twelve weeks and would go on to be the second most successful charting song of all time.
Stay safe and well...and you are likely wondering what the most successful Billboard charting song of all time is. It’s “The Twist” charting twice, once in 1960 and again in 1961, and selling more than 35 million copies.
