Thursday October 8, 2020 “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” Beach Boys
Of course we had to include the Beach Boys, also one of the finest rock harmonizing groups.
“Wouldn’t It Be Nice” is the opening track to the legendary Beach Boys album Pet Sounds and it must have been important to co-writer and producer Brian Wilson as he titled his autobiography after it. The lyrics to “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” along with most of the other tunes on Pet Sounds were written by then advertising jingle writer Tony Asher.
Asher once referred to Brian as a "genius musician but an amateur human being" and also being the single most irresponsible person he had ever met. Their musical association however was clearly a good one.
The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records and although Brian Wilson has always been a brilliant songwriter and producer almost all of their albums were originally recorded in mono rather than stereo as Brian was deaf in one ear.
It’s hard to find decent live versions of Beach Boys tunes, they were really a much better studio group but included here is a live version of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" that features Brian on lead, kind of a live rarity.
Stay safe and well...and wouldn’t it be nice.
