Wednesday October 7, 2020 “New Kid in Town” Eagles
As harmonies continue we definitely need to include the Eagles.
Don Henley and Glenn Frey joined Linda Ronstadt's touring band in 1971 and played on her third solo album in 1972 along with Randy Meisner and Bernie Leadon. With Ronstadt's blessing, they formed the Eagles in 1972 and quickly became even more popular than she was.
“New Kid in Town” was written by Glen Frey, Don Henley and J.D. Souther who said that it was inspired by a cowboy theme where there was always a faster gun coming into town to challenge the current fast gun. Souther felt that it symbolized their lives as songwriters where there was always someone younger looking to replace them.
In the world of rock band revolving doors, Meisner was in the group Poco before joining the Eagles. Poco replaced Randy with Timothy B. Schmit, who replaced Randy when he left the Eagles. I ran into Timothy B. Schmitt in Central Park one summer afternoon a while back and when I acknowledged him and thanked him for his music, he simply walked away. He was with either his mother or one of the oldest groupies I could have imagined.
Stay safe and well...and is that cousin (not really) and guitar god Joe Walsh on keyboards? Who knew. You're also welcome for the Spanish lesson in the video.
