Thursday June 17, 2021 “Fall Down” Toad the Wet Sprocket
Another perfect rock band name!?
This band named themselves after a comment in an Eric Idle monologue in a Monty Python sketch: “Rex Stardust, lead electric triangle with Toad the Wet Sprocket, has had to have an elbow removed following their recent successful worldwide tour of Finland. Flamboyant ambidextrous Rex apparently fell off the back of a motorcycle.”
Toad the Wet Sprocket is composed of singer/songwriter Glen Phillips, guitarist Todd Nichols, bassist Dean Dinning, and drummer Randy Guss and was founded in 1986 in their native Santa Barbara, California. Dean Dinning’s Uncle Mark (Dinning) was responsible for that wonderfully morbid 60s classic “Teen Angel”.
Why is Toad the Wet Sprocket ridiculous, all you need to do is apply the Crocodile Dundee test to it and say it out loud and then you can talk all you want about the creds in naming your band after a Monty Python gag gets, but it doesn't change the words, or how foolish they sound.
Stay safe and well...and Ministry of Silly Walks, now there's a name for a band.
