Wednesday January 19, 2022 “Steal My Kisses” Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals
Ben Harper was born into a musical family. His mother played guitar and sang and his grandparents had a music store The Folk Music Center and Museum whose regular customers included Leonard Cohen, Taj Mahal and David Lindley. Harper started playing guitar at age four and played his first gig at age twelve.
“Steal My Kisses” is from Harpers’ 1999 album Burn to Shine, his fourth. In 2011 Harper began working on what would be his tenth album, Give Till It’s Gone which was recorded in Jackson Brown’s basement studio and includes two tracks with Ringo Starr.
An avid skateboarder Harper has trained with Rodney Mullen who is considered the most influential street skater in the sport and Harper is also co-owner of the skateboarding brand Roller Horror.
Harper is an active philanthropist working with groups as varied as No Nukes and an organization to provide music education in underprivileged schools called Little Kids Rock. He has written songs and soundtracks for several movies and TV shows, was married to actress Laura Dern, has three children and his cousin Steven Gonzales is a Washington State Supreme Court Justice.
Harpers ‘official video’ for “Steal My Kisses” certainly gives you the impression that he’s stealing kisses from a lot of ladies…or maybe it’s just a dream.
Stay safe and well…and don’t be stealing kisses, they should be given freely.
Fun song, fairly straightforward to play. Here’s the cheat version (G F C D F#)
