Tuesday January 18, 2022 “This Kiss” Faith Hill
Faith Hill was a country star of some repute but decided in 1998 to make an attempt to crossover to the pop music world as well and on her 1998 album Faith she included “This Kiss” which would be a number one country hit as well as a top ten pop hit establishing her as a superstar.
She immediately recorded another album, Breathe filled with ‘pop songs’ with the lead single entering the country charts at number one and although it only made it to number two on the pop charts the song remained there so long that it became the top selling single for the year 2000.
“This Kiss” written by Beth Nielsen Chapman, Robin Lerner and Annie Roboff came together pretty quickly, but they struggled to come up with the second verse, the one where Cinderella asks Snow White about how love gets so off course. At first Chapman came up with a line about Cleopatra being a snowflake, which Lerner and Roboff immediately vetoed.
Chapman also sang background on “This Kiss” and she said that those royalties put her son through college.
Faith Hill has five Grammy Awards, fifteen Academy of Country Music Awards, six American Music Awards, four People's Choice Awards and was included on the Ladies Home Journal list of the ‘30 Most Powerful Women.’
Stay safe and well…and who knew Cinderella and Snow White were even friends or that a kiss created 'centrifugal motion...in that pivotal moment'
