Friday March 27, 2020 “Do Wah Diddy” Manfred Mann
Friday and it’s a good day for something stoopid so here you go, Do Wah Diddy by Manfred Mann. Is it relevant, nope, is it meaningful, nope, is it serious, absolutely not. But the joy of this little tune is that you feel compelled to sing along and even if you don’t know the other twelve words in the song, you’ve got the chorus so go ahead and in unison let’s all start do wah diddying, each of the nine times it appears in the song. As usual the lyrics are below in case you have forgotten them.
There actually was a Manfred Mann although the lead singing on this tune was managed by Paul Jones (not the Led Zeppelin one), who reportedly passed on an invitation to join as lead singer of a group being formed by Keith Richards and Brian Jones. Another guy named Jagger said yes and that group did OK, but they were no Manfred Mann. Other interesting trivia, members of Manfred Mann (and his Earth Band) included Jack Bruce (Cream), Mike D’abo (composer of Build Me Up Buttercup and other songs), and Klaus Voorman (Beatles, James Taylor, and so many others).
Enjoy their misuse of the Kings English…I knew we was falling in love.
Be well and stay happy.
