Wednesday January 20, 2021 “Forbidden Love” Bronx Style Bob
I always start out thinking this is a love song and then listen to the lyrics and get really confused.
Pretty sure as you are looking at this song title and the artist you are saying, maybe even out loud, Bronx Style Bob, we're all lost now!! This was one of my favorite songs back in 1992 when it somehow slipped onto the radio for about six minutes, another of so many tunes that somehow never became the hit it should have been...IMHO.
Robert Kahleel, Bronx Style Bob was early into the NY club scene of the 80's and said, "...you would have Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Barishnikov, in a room with Basquiat, Futura 2000, Dondi, or Zephyr, with rock steady breakin. Jazzy Jay on the set, and taggers hitting up, blunts flowin', and some graffiti artist gettin' stomped out in the corner by a rival crew...it was like a painting."
This tune comes from his album/CD Grandma's Ghost which was his only adventure as BSB but his music would be included in many movies including, Nightwatch, The Parent Trap, Ten Things I Hate About You as well as the theme for the HBO series Cathouse.
Skip the lyrics or just go with the ones that make sense but I promise you will feel lighter and happier and yearning for the warm waters of the Caribbean after listening to this cheerful tune. And you will spend at least part of the day with "Forbidden love we were meant to be together, forbidden love...something about a fridge and a palm tree" wandering through your head. Your welcome.
Couldn’t find all the lyrics but below are the basics.
Stray safe and well...and I am sticking with this as a love song.
