Friday April 1, 2022 “When I Come Around” Nap Eyes
No April Fools here, this is really a cover of the Green Day song.
Formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in the early 2010s, indie rock quartet Nap Eyes combine jangly guitars with witty lyrics all built around the literate, often stream-of-consciousness vocals of singer/songwriter/guitarist Nigel Chapman.
Nap Eyes released their debut album Whine of the Mystic independently in 2014 and then re-released the album in 2015 when they signed with You've Changed Records in Canada and Paradise of Bachelors in the United States. The band's second album, Thought Rock Fish Scale, with songs delivered in a slow, psychedelic and meditative style, was released in 2016 on both labels. The album was supported by a concert tour of dates in both Canada and the United States, an appearance on CBC Radio.
According to songwriter and Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong "When I Come Around" is a very personal song about being away from his girlfriend, Adrienne Nesser, and the frustrations they both felt when he was on the road. Billie Joe and Adrienne eventually married and have two sons.
If you check YouTube you will find some unlikely covers by Billie Joe Armstrong like “I Think We’re Alone Now” played with his sons who are now young adults.
Stay safe and well…and as for Nap Eyes, based on this interpretation, I would say that the 'nap' portion of the band's name may be appropriate.
