Wednesday March 30,2022 “Time Out of Mind” Lou Hayter
London based Lou Hayter grew up on a diet of David Bowie, Prince, Human League and Madonna while learning classical piano from the age of five and then made her first mark professionally as the keyboardist for New Young Pony Club.
Wait who!?
The New Young Pony Club (NYPC to fans) is an English electronic music band from London that was formed by Andy Spence and Tahita Bulmer in 2004 whose influences include predominantly post-punk and new wave artists. The band consisted of Spence, Bulmer, Igor Volk on bass, Sarah Jones on drums and of course Lou Hayter on keyboards.
Known primarily in the UK, the New Young Pony Club supported Katy Perry on her 2011 California Dreams Tour in continental Europe.
Hayter is also a popular club DJ and involved in the fashion industry.
Effortlessly hopscotching between vintage acid and 80s R & B, laced with some French pop and electro house, Lou Hayter has delivered something at once utterly unique and defiantly timeless with her much anticipated debut solo LP. And yes I cut and pasted a good portion of this. I really had no idea who Lou Hayter was or the New Young Pony Club before this video but I definitely like her version of this Steely Dan song and she does it with a trio, not the dozens of studio musicians and backup singers that Fagen and Becker typically used.
Stay safe and well……and apologies to the Steely Dan haters I heard from last week but maybe an interpretation by another artist will make them more palatable for you.
