Friday May 7, 2021 “All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You” Heart
As we continue rock & roll erotica we have a potboiler of a story from the band Heart with primary lead singer Ann Wilson, one of the most remarkable voices in rock, telling the tale.
Today’s song was written by Robert John “Mutt’ Lange who has a number of top ten songs, five Grammys and has produced records for a variety of artists like AC/DC, Def Leppard, The Boomtown Rats, Foreigner, Michael Bolton, The Cars, Bryan Adams, Huey Lewis and the News, Billy Ocean, Celine Dion, Britney Spears, The Corrs, Maroon 5, Lady Gaga, Nickelback, and Muse among many, many others.
“Mutt’ Lange was married to country star Shania Twain from 1993-2008.
As for the song it is one of many that we have discussed where the artist, in this case Heart, was opposed to recording it, only to have it go on to be one of their biggest international hits. Heart primary lead singer Ann Wilson has made a number of comments on her dislike for the song, calling the song's message "hideous" in an interview with Dan Rather.
In the song Ann Wilson sings of a one-night stand with a handsome young male hitchhiker. After an implicit agreement to remain anonymous, they make their way to a hotel room. The lyrics make the suggestion that this may not be the first time the female protagonist has engaged in such behaviors, noting her familiarity with this particular hotel. The story’s end is a baby, the result of their tryst and she did it apparently because the man she is in love with is not able to father children.
Stay safe and well...and be wary of hitchhikers. As the familiar story goes when the hitchhiker was picked up in the rain he expressed his gratitude to the driver saying that he might have been a serial killer to which the driver says “Oh I don’t think so, the likelihood of two serial killers in the same car is highly improbable.”
