Monday July 19, 2021 “I Don’t Like Mondays” Boomtown Rats
In July of 1985 there was this remarkable musical event that took place that raised over 125 million dollars to help famine in Ethiopia, it was called Live Aid and some amazing music took place that day all around the world and kept many of us glued to our MtVs to capture it all. It was one of the largest satellite link-ups and television broadcasts of all time; an estimated audience of 1.9 billion, in 150 nations, watched the live broadcast, nearly 40 percent of the world population.
The idea for the concert was conceived of by Sir Bob Geldolf of the the Boomtown Rats and Midge Ure guitarist, songwriter and singer in a number of high profile UK rock groups and in a mere sixty days they put together an almost unbelievable day of music that included virtually everyone who was anyone in music in 1985.
So we are going to spend this week with some of the artists who were part of this event in the order that they appeared and what better band to start with, on a Monday, than Sir Bob Geldof’s Boomtown Rats with their international top ten hit "I Hate Mondays".
All of these performances are going to be live from the day so please bear with any of their audio shortcomings.
Stay safe and well...and this tune written by Bob Geldof was based on an actual event and the song title came from the shooter's reason for beginning her rampage.
