Sunday July 18, 2021 “Still the One” Orleans
Orleans was formed in Woodstock, New York in January 1972 by vocalist/guitarist/songwriter John Hall, vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist/bassist Larry Hoppen and drummer/keyboardist/songwriter Wells Kelly and the band name originated from the music it was playing at the time of their formation, which was inspired by Louisiana artists such as Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers.
Orleans recorded and self-produced their album Let There Be Music in Woodstock’s Bearsville Studio, but ABC didn't like it and promptly dropped the group from the label. Asylum picked up the record and released it and it generated a top ten hit with their 1975 single “Dance with Me”.
Hall and his wife Johanna would write many of the Orleans songs and he would release two unsuccessful solo albums and then go on to organize the No Nukes concert with Graham Nash, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne.
Stay safe and well...and John Hall, guitarist, vocalist and songwriter of Orleans became a member of the House of Representatives from 2007-2011.
