Monday July 27, 2020 “True” Spandau Ballet
...and none of them even danced.
Spandau Ballet was started by Gary Kemp and Steve Norman who both attended Dame Alice Owen’s School one of the oldest and most respected secondary schools in the UK founded in 1613 by the Worshipful Company of Brewers (?).
The band’s lineup changed almost as many times as their name did starting with The Roots, then The Cut, then The Makers until finally settling on both a permanent lineup and the name Spandau Ballet, a phrase seen written on a wall in Berlin.
Well coiffed, well dressed, handsome young men each of the group members, you might think there could be a cinematic future for these gentlemen and it turns out several of the band members would have successful acting careers both in movies and TV (The Bodyguard, Killing Zoe, The Outer Limits, The East Enders). Spandau Ballet brothers Gary and Martin Kemp also starred in the award winning movie The Krays about twins who were notoriously violent and unstable London gangsters.
Frontman and lead singer Tony Hadley would take on the title role in a BBC production of Jesus Christ Superstar with The Who’s Roger Daltrey portraying Judas.
Stay safe and well...and true.
