Tuesday July 28, 2020 “The Heat is On” Glenn Frey
Oh yes it is, at least here in the NY area, and it is definitely a ‘hot town summer in the city’.
The Eagles were in their we’re not getting back together until hell freezes over phase and Glenn Frey was looking for a solo project. His manager , Irving Atzoff told him that he needed to get a song in the new Eddie Murphy movie because it was going to be huge so he should come down to the studio and check it out.
Frey said he sat down in the screening room and looked over his shoulder to see Stevie Wonder and over his other shoulder he saw Quincy Jones, and then the Pointer Sisters and then...he figures no way am I ever going to get a song in this movie. But he is contacted by Harold Faltermeyer who did the soundtrack and co-wrote “The Heat Is On” who asks Frey if he would consider the song, which obviously he did.
It was a number two song on the Billboard 100, the highest charting single for any of the individual Eagles.
The saxophone part in the recording is played by David Woodford not Beverly Dahlke-Smith the attractive young lady in the video, but she does play.
Stay safe and well...and check out "Beverly Hills Cop" again, it's still fun.
