Friday July 24, 2020 “I am a Cat” Shonen Knife (1990s)
Sorry!
Kurt Cobain of the legendary band Nirvana said, "When I finally got to see them (Shonen Knife) live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert.”
It’s frivolous Friday and we will be spending four minutes twelve seconds, should you last that long, with the pride of Osaka, Japan, Shonen Knife. Earlier in the week we heard from Fanny, a talented rock and roll outfit that never achieved the level of success that they should have and here we have Shonen Knife with grammar school lyrics and pretty basic instrumental abilities who became somewhat of a strange cult phenomenon compared often to the Ramones.
They have opened for Nirvana and Mudhoney and played Lollapalooza as well as many other festivals around the world, are celebrating thirty years playing together and have recorded over twenty albums/CDs. If I was in Fanny, I would be both confused and pissed.
A shonen knife, in case you were wondering, is a children’s pocket knife, so you can see the relevance there?
Stay safe and well...and Shonen Knife, why?!
