Monday, July 13, 2020 “Radio Ga Ga” Queen
A song for those of us who grew up with the radio and maybe still spend more time than we should listening to it.
On this date in 1985 Live AID was presented in Wembley Stadium, London and JFK Stadium, Philadelphia and was watched by more than 1.5 billion people in 160 countries. There were many who said that Queen’s performance, which included this tune, was the most memorable moment of the many superstar rock acts.
Queen is a band with so many hits, so many styles, so many stories and probably the only rock band whose members include an astrophysicist (Brian May) and they have sold nearly 300 million albums/CDs making them one of the most successful rock groups ever.
And the recent Freddie Mercury movie “Bohemian Rhapsody” and introduction of “Ameircan Idol” runner up Adam Lambert as their new frontman has pushed Queen back into the spotlight, forty years after their formation.
Queen's songwriting responsibilities were shared by all the members and this particular tune was written by drummer Roger Taylor who claims he was inspired by a statement his young son offered, resulting in the original song title “Radio Ca Ca”, deemed inappropriate by the band.
Stay safe and well...and decide for yourself if, as some suggest, Lady Ga Ga took her name from this song.
