Tuesday July 14, 2020 “Video Killed the Radio Star” The Buggles
Since we did radio yesterday it seems only fitting that we give equal time to video.
The first video shown in 1979 on fledgeling cable station MtV and ironically this video service has slipped quite from it's position of influence leaving perhaps more strength for the radio, and yeah, all those streaming services.
Written by the band's co-founder and lead singer Trevor Horn “Video…” would become an international number one hit likely as a result of the attention it received from MtV. Horn and the other band founder Geoff Downes would go on to produce and play with tons of bands including Yes, Asia, ABC, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Seal, Tina Turner, Paul McCartney and many others.
