Wednesday Febrary 9, 2022 “Here, There & Everywhere” David Gilmour (Pink Floyd)
Today’s song, primarily a McCartney tune was, according to Paul, written while he was lounging by John Lennon’s pool and was influenced by Brian Wilson’s “God Only Knows”.
McCartney also suggested that it was one of only a few songs that he received affirmation from John Lennon who said, 'That's a really good song, lad. I love that song.'
Although “Here There & Everywhere”, which is included on the album Revolver, was not a typical Beatles chart topping success it regularly appears on pretty much every “Greatest Songs…” list.
Today’s version is by David Gilmour of Pink Floyd who has said, “The Beatles taught me how to play guitar; I learnt everything. The bass parts, the lead, the rhythm, everything. They were fantastic.”
Gilmour would of course replace Pink Floyd co-founder and lead guitarist Syd (Roger) Barrett as Barrett slid deeper into psychological problems and was no longer able to function as a member of the group. Ironically Barrett and Gilmour were school friends who busked around Europe after graduation, long before their Pink Floyd connection.
Gilmour and Roger Waters, the other Pink Floyd co-founder, do not get along well with Gilmour simply stating that they were “never mates”. That animosity between the two of them has led to legal disputes and public criticisms of each other for many years.
Stay safe and well…and on “Here, There & Everywhere” David Gilmour is accompanied by his son Joe Gilmour, one of David’s eight children.
