Wednesday, April 8, 2020 “El Paso” Marty Robbins
Something a little different today, I wanted to tell you a story. It has all the classic elements: there’s a beautiful maiden, a dashing young cowboy, there’s dancing, drinking, violence and horses. But really, it’s a love story. The kind of love that’s so powerful someone is willing to risk their life for it.
And then I thought about all of the health care professionals and essential service providers who are out there working in spite of this life-threatening virus and realized that this is above service and duty, beyond special, not just amazing courage, this is love. Not the romantic one but the kind of love where people are putting their lives on the line for strangers...for us.
If you know someone doing this, even if you don't know them, let them how much you appreciate them, send them a note, email them, call them up, wave to them, give them a thumbs up, bake them some cookies but let them know that their love is not taken for granted but is recognized. And when this is over let’s all go to our local hospitals for a thankful celebration and multiple, long, tight hugs.
Anyway, on to the story. It starts out in the west Texas town of El Paso...wait I’ll let Marty finish it, he knows the story better than I do, and it’s a fine one that he adds an interesting rhyming pattern to.
Be safe and well…and grateful.
