Wednesday April 1, 2020 “Time Is Tight” Booker T and the MGs

This is a piece of happy energy played by four truly great session musicians. Booker T. Jones, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunne and Al Jackson Jr. These guys were basically the Stax records house band and played on more hits than you can count on all of your fingers and toes, even if you include all the fingers and toes of two or three friends. Think Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding (“Dock of the Bay” co-written by Cropper), Sam and Dave, Bill Withers and they played on all their songs and so many others.

Oh yeah and they were the Blues Brothers band from the movie with some horns added.

Please spend a couple of minutes with the grainy, live performance video because you can’t help but get caught up in the infectious enthusiasm that these four guys have playing this song together. The smiles on their faces, the sheer enjoyment they express reminds us that there really is magic in the music.

And the music is in us. Lyrics below.

Be well and happy.
