Tuesday May 19, 2020 “Not Today” Jump Little Children

What ever happened to this band?

We have discussed inspiration for band names before and this name comes from a relatively obscure 1948 song written by a relatively unknown blues guitarist, singer and songwriter, Leroy Dallas. Relatively obscure and relatively unknown may not be a good beginning.

Having said that “Magazine”, the album/CD recorded on the Breaking Records label (started by the band Hootie & the Blowfish) that this song comes from is definitely worth a listen with a number of fine tunes that perhaps should have gotten broader recognition. Maybe if they had called themselves “Beatles Too” instead? It was produced by Brad Jones who also produced Josh Rouse, Marshall Crenshaw, Matthew Sweet and many others.

"Not Today" written by group member Jay Clifford who in addition to singing was responsible for guitar, mellotron, organ, piano, string arrangements, and toy piano. Maybe they should have called the band Clifford, but the big, red dog probably has that copyright.

Stay safe and well…this corona stuff will all be over, but not today.

I'm sure someone would hear me if I scream.
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
I'm sure someone would notice if I seemed...
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
Out of touch or hard to find.
But not today.I don't mind being lonely once in a while.
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
But not today.

I'm sure someone would hear me across the miles
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
If I'm outta touch or way behind.
But not today.

Not today. On any other day, but not today.
Everyone smiles away.
Not today. On any other day, but not today.
Everyone is miles away.

I've never really been that hard to find.
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
But not today.
I'm sure that I could keep it off my mind...
nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah
If I'm out of touch or out of mind.
But not today.

Hey, hey!
On any other day.
Hey, hey!
On any other day.
Hey, hey!
On any other day.
Hey, hey!
But not today.
On any other day
But not today.
Everyone is miles away.
