Tuesday November 10, 2020 “Don’t Look Back” Boston
The remarkable instant success of this band was based on fine musical skills, strong songwriting, new technologies, amazing harmonies and a frontman who was one of the great voices in rock & roll.
Boston was the brainchild of MIT educated, engineer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Tom Scholz who created their first album/CD in his home studio and delivered it to the record label in the exact format that went to market. In addition to their remarkable albums he created a number of devices under the Rockman brand that are still used today by rock bands.
At the time, their debut album Boston was the fastest selling debut album/CD ever and would go on to sell more than nine million copies and deliver three top ten singles. Boston's first album also supplied radio stations with eight songs listeners loved and their albums/CDs would go on to sell more than seventy five million copies and they would remain a staple on the radio and touring for years
Often credited with paving the way for what would be labeled ‘power pop’ Boston is certainly in your record collection and remains in the public ear, often too frequently leading to a bit to listener exhaustion but they remain a seminal sound and if you are of a certain age you will remember the moment in time when the album/CD overwhelmed the airwaves.
Unfortunately Brad Delp, whose powerful vocals carried this bnd, left us in 2007 and if you want to get a sense of just how remarkable his vocals were check this out.
Stay safe and well...and don’t look back.
