Wednesday December 23, 2020 “Happy Christmas, War is Over” John & Yoko Lennon

It's hard to believe this holiday classic is almost 50 years old, but its resonance has not dimmed even the slightest during that time and for me it remains one of few Christmas songs that is musically appealing.

While John Lennon and Yoko Ono were engaging in various protest activities—think their late '60s bed-ins—they were also making beautiful and meaningful music designed to reach the masses, while conveying a serious message.

So maybe it smacks of anti-war sentiment, war after all is not that great an idea, but also take to heart Lennon's question that ‘another year is over and what have you done”.  2020 was a bad year and we need 2021 to be so much better but in the meantime what have we done that might be positive.

Stay safe and well...and yes, let’s hope next year is a good one without any fear.

So this is Christmas

And what have you done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

 A very Merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

 And so this is Christmas

For weak and for strong

For rich and the poor ones

The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas

For black and for white

For yellow and red ones

Let's stop all the fight

 A very Merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

 And so this is Christmas

And what have we done

Another year over

A new one just begun

And so happy Christmas

We hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

 A very Merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

War is over, if you want it

War is over now
