Wednesday March 10, 2021 “(Simply) The Best” Tina Turner
It could not be a proper celebration of women in music without paying tribute to Tina Turner, singer, dancer, extraordinary performer and survivor.
She started her career as half of the Ike & Tina Turner Review, married to Ike Turner and thanks to the book I Tina and movie based on that book, What’s Love Got to Do with It, we all know how that would turn out for Tina. After her 1975 divorce from Ike, Tina’s carrer took a serious downturn and it wouldn’t be until the 80’s that she would come soaring back.
She returned with starring roles in movies, chart topping singles and multiplatinum albums/CDs. Tina has sold over 100 million records, is one of the best-selling recording artists of all time, has received 12 Grammy Awards, three Grammy Hall of Fame awards, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was the first black artist and first female to cover Rolling Stone which ranked her among the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.
Tina Turner has been living in Switzerland since 1995 and relinquished her US citizenship in 2013 and is now a Swiss citizen. After a 27 year relationship with German music executive Erwin Bach Tina made him an honest man and they were married in July 2013.
Not much left to say here except shake it little Tina.
Stay safe and well...and if you’re not sure Tina is the best, this live performance captures her high energy at age 70, looking great and there’s no lip syncing here!
