Tuesday March 9, 2021 “It’s Too Late” Carole King

Continuing with Women’s Month and a nice segue to yesterday’s Aretha Franklin we have Carole KIng perhaps the most successful pop singer/songwriter ever.

In addition to “Natural Woman”, Carole King has co-written so many hits and classics that they need to be listed alphabetically, but not here we just don’t have the space, but think, “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow”, “Pleasant Valley Sunday”, Locomotion”, “Don’t Bring Me Down”, “Take Good Care of My Baby” and “Up on the Roof” and those are only a very few of the songs from the 60’s...only the 60s.

She has co-written 118 pop hits making her the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US.

King also has twenty five solo albums/CDs not the least of which is Tapestry which is owned by virtually everybody of a certain age and would hold the record for remaining at number one for the longest period of time.

She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored.

“It’s Too Late” was released as the B-side to "I Feel the Earth Move." After a few weeks of continuous airplay for "I Feel the Earth Move," many DJs decided to give "It's Too Late" an equal amount of airplay. Soon, it came to the point where everyone preferred "It's Too Late," which ended up topping the charts by May of 1971. "I Feel the Earth Move" never charted.

Stay safe and well...it’s never too late to pay respect to the girls, ladies and women.

Stayed in bed all mornin' just to pass the time

There's somethin' wrong here, there can be no denyin'

One of us is changin', or maybe we've just stopped tryin'

And it's too late, baby now, it's too late

Though we really did try to make it

Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no

It used to be so easy, livin' here with you

You were light and breezy, an' I knew just what to do

Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool

And it's too late, baby now, it's too late

Though we really did try to make it

Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no

There'll be good times again for me and you

But we just can't stay together, don't you feel it, too?

Still I'm glad for what we had and how I once loved you

But it's too late, baby now, it's too late

Though we really did try to make it (we can't make it)

Somethin' inside has died, and I can't hide

And I just can't fake it, oh, no, no, no, no, no

It's too late, baby, it's too late now, darling

It's too late
